Daily Practice:

Prayer (5 minutes):  Thank Jesus for who He is. Remember the struggle it was for Him to come as a perfect and holy God to our earth full of disappointment and sin. Praise Him for being the perfect sacrifice and example for us. Submit your work, anxieties, relationships, and goals to Him today.

Scripture (5 minutes): Read the passage below. Take your time. What is the phrase that resonates with you the most?

John 1:19-28 (ESV)
And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, ”I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”

So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” He said, I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

(Now they had been sent by the Pharisees.) They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”

These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Meditation (5 minutes): Meditate on the line below. Repeat it 3x out loud.

…among you stands one you do not know, even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.

Sometimes, it’s easy for us to lose sight of why we are where we are in life, and what we’re supposed to be doing. That’s sort of the point of this meditation practice, right? To re-align and re-center our focus on our to north star, and submit our lives to God on a daily basis.

This passage best describes the purpose of the believer while we’re on earth. We work, play, have relationships, and strive to create meaning while we’re here. But ultimately, we’re here to be a living testimony of Him “whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”

The work we do today, the conversations we have, the time we spend on activities and hobbies, the thoughts and ideas we give attention to – all of it is in service of a greater purpose. It’s all in service for Him. Encourage someone else today in the context God has placed you in. Be a John to your world that desperately needs Jesus.

Amen.
See you tomorrow!
