Prayer (10 minutes):
- Set the timer on your phone 5 minutes. Don’t say anything, but sit with the Holy Spirit and welcome Him into your day/heart.
- Thank Him for the Words we read yesterday. Thank Him for the simplicity of the Gospel. Ask Him to make it fresh in your heart again.
- Ask God to reveal areas of your life that are in darkness. Pray that God would flood these areas with the light of His Gospel.
- Pray for our world and the challenges we face. Praise Jesus for His salvation.
Scripture (5 minutes): Read the passage below. Take your time. What is the phrase that resonates with you the most?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.
But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.
God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
The entire Gospel message is contained in this passage.
Those who deny Him are left to wander in the darkness of the world they choose to exist in. The world we see in front of us everyday: manipulation, lying, hurting the poor or the less fortunate, racism, violence, rape, vanity, selfishness…etc.
Jesus came to save us from all of that. Those who trust in His sacrifice know that the world in its current state is full of darkness. But, one day Jesus is going to eradicate the darkness and rule the world under His glorious light of truth and love. That’s why believers can live in peace. This is not the end.
We celebrate life now as it reminds us of who we serve and what the world will be like when He returns. We work everyday to mirror the perfect Garden-state He created in Gethsemane years ago. We look forward to His return and perfect rule. Praise Him!
