Daily Practice:

Prayer (5 minutes):

  • Invite God to meet with your soul this morning, and to infect every thought and action you take with His love
  • Relieve yourself of any burden or weight you’ve been carrying. Lay your burdens at His feet.
  • Praise Him for calling you to Himself!

Scripture (5 minutes): John 6:16-21 (ESV)

Meditation (5 minutes): Meditate on the phrase below. Repeat it 3x out loud.

It is I (Jesus). Do not be afraid.

The disciples being in the boat by themselves in the dark during a storm is the perfect metaphor for how life feels sometimes.

They’re no doubt scared, focused on surviving, and possibly confused as to why Jesus left them right at this moment. I know I would be.

I love, though, the fact that they are in the boat rowing together. They stayed banded together with their brothers, trusting God, and pulling toward the same mission as a unit. Despite the fact they may not have understood, and certainly didn’t know how things would turn out – they had the comfort of each other.

Then, as the darkness is getting thick and the storm is turning nasty – Jesus shows up. Right on time. Like always.

The thing is, I bet it didn’t feel “right on time” to the disciples. I bet they were wondering where the heck He was, and how they were going to survive. But He did show up. When it was in His timing to do so.

The best part about this is once He enters the boat – He instantly moves the entire boat to their destination. How crazy would this be? You’re in the thick of the storm, Jesus shows up – you’re excited, then BANG. You’ve arrived.

Today, I’m praising Jesus that He will show up when I’m in the boat. I’m thanking Him that He’s given me a godly wife and friends who will row with me. But most of all, I’m crying out with praise that His timing and way is perfect, and He won’t let us drown in the storm.
