Daily Practice:

Prayer (5 minutes):

  • Confess anything you’ve held on to as needing in this life aside from God
  • Thank Him for providing the life & peace we need
  • Ask Him to settle your heart, and to remind you of His power

Scripture (5 minutes): John 6:22-71

Meditation (5 minutes): Meditate on the phrase below. Repeat it 3x out loud.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh

In his book “Me, Myself & Bob” author Phil Vischer (creator of Veggie Tales) quotes a beautiful thought from C.S. Lewis.

“He who has God and everything else has no more than he who has God only.”

Vischer goes on to clarify, anyone who has God + a healthy marriage has no more than he who has God only. Anyone who has God + a great job…+ meaningful work… + a happy family… + a successful business…

You get the idea.

Jesus had just done miracles in front of these crowds and fed them out of a little boy’s lunch pail. The next day? They want more signs, and grumble when He will not produce magic tricks for them.

They wanted the bread found on the shelves at grocery stores, while Jesus wanted to give them the bread of life. They wanted the “+’s.”

God is in absolute and breathtaking control of our lives and circumstances today. The bread we eat, the jobs we work, the relationships we have…they’re all in His powerful hands. All He wants from us is to trust Him. To give Him what is already His, and to stop pretending like we own or control any part of our lives.

He is the bread of life, and He is more than what we need today.
